Koffi Shop
January 10, 2008 · 3 Comments
If you’re a traveling coffee drinker, you probably don’t feel at home until you’ve located at least one coffee shop at your destination. It’s like having a security blanket. Find the coffee shop first and then relax knowing you could survive on coffee and muffins no matter what. If the place carries the NY Times, all the better.
We found the Koffi Cafe on our first day; and after only one week in Palm Springs, we officially consider ourselves “regulars.” No one else
does. But, I do think we’ve attained special status in that we are usually the only straight people in there. No-one holds it against us. Everyone is friendly. We share newspapers and can say pretty much anything bad about George Bush and have a receptive audience.
Koffi’s is a small shop with seating for perhaps 25 people, all of whom are fully cell-phoned. In fact, this is the only criticism of have: Every few seconds a cell phone is ringing. You have all these people looking at each other, searching their pockets, fumbling around thinking it’s their phone, and it isn’t. Folks don’t seem to use ringtones all that much, so these phones are all beeping the same beep.
Starbucks is here too, but if you want an interesting place to read the paper, drink a cup of great coffee and munch on a fresh muffin—Koffi’s is your best bet.
NOTE: This is not a paid advertisement, but should Koffi’s proprietors see fit to reward me with a free medium, skim latte with a half shot of sugar-free vanilla and blueberry muffin, I’m okay with that.
